Matcha, Matcha, Matcha

Matcha [抹茶] is the elixir of the Gods.

Okay, its actually finely ground green tea leaves, not just any old green tea leaves mind you, these ones are loaded with nutrients!

I drank my weight in matcha when I was in Japan and my body loved me for it - ohh the benefits. If I'm doing it, it has benefits. Trust me.

My daily matcha ritual involves adding one tablespoon to the good ol' green smoothie, and a cup of tea.

Making the tea is super easy. Add a small spoonful to your cup, add near boiling water and stir [or whisk if you’ve got one].

Pro tip: If you drink matcha in the office everyone will ask what it is. This is a real improvement on the weather small talk in the kitchen.

Here are some of the reasons you should get matcha into your life -

Antioxidants
When you drink matcha, you’re actually drinking the leaves. One cup of matcha has like 10 times the amount of antioxidants than normal green tea. You want antioxidants in your body, and as many of them as you can get.

Energy
Matcha has a bit of caffeine in it, but nothing too crazy! It’s called theophylline and its magic at sustaining those energy levels – no come down here!

Weight loss
Now I don’t drink it for this, obvs, but it is the perfect addition to your slimming goals as it pumps up that metabolism and burns fat.

Anti-ageing
Matcha is literally a magic tea. All those antioxidants mixed with it's ability to improve your skins elasticity help slow the dreaded ageing process. Drinking matcha can also increase blood flow and oxygen to the skin - hello nice face!

Detox
Matcha aids body detoxification and flushes out those toxins and other nasties from your system.

Drinking Matcha isn’t the only way to reap these benefits! Matcha face masks are my go to for detoxifying and brightening the skin.

This mask rules, it gives you that new skin look, has anti-aging benefits and is a friend for us pimply folk!

A tablespoon of matcha and a teaspoon (or more, you can choose the consistency) of water is all you need. Stir that up and cover your face. Leave it on until it’s dry, and you can no longer move your crusty face - then wash it off with warm water.

You can never have too matcha this!
